HDFC Bank statement PDF to Excel
Convert an HDFC Bank savings or current account statement, or an HDFC credit card statement, into an Excel sheet with separate Debit and Credit columns and a checked summary. It runs in your browser: the statement is never uploaded.
Free. No account. The PDF is read inside your browser and is never uploaded.
How to convert it
- Download the statement PDF from HDFC net banking, or save it from the email.
- Click Open your HDFC statement above and choose the file.
- If it asks for a password, enter the one HDFC gave for the statement. The email that carried it usually says what the password is made of. It is used only on your device.
- Check the preview and click Download Excel.
What is handled for HDFC statements
These came from real HDFC statements that did not convert properly at first, and each is now covered by a test:
- The rupee sign on credit card statements. In the text inside HDFC's card PDFs, the ₹ sign is stored as the letter "C", so a naive converter reads "C 31.14" as text. PDF Desk reads it as ₹31.14, but only when it sits in front of an amount with paise, so a real "C" elsewhere is left alone.
- Credits marked with "+". HDFC card statements print payments and refunds as "+ ₹5,583.00" and leave purchases bare. These are split into a Credit column and a Debit column. Reward points such as "+ 10" are not mistaken for money.
- Dates with a time. Card transactions that carry a time as well as a date are read as proper dates, so the sheet sorts by date correctly.
- Account statements with Withdrawal Amt., Deposit Amt. and Closing Balance columns keep those columns, and the closing balance is used to check every row.
What the Excel file contains
| Sheet | What is on it |
|---|---|
| Transactions | Every transaction from every page on one sheet, in the order the statement lists them: date, description, debit, credit and balance where the statement has them, plus a Category column and the Page each row came from. Dates are real Excel dates and amounts are numbers, so sorting, filters and pivot tables work straight away. |
| Summary | The statement period, total money out, total money in, opening and closing balance (when the statement has a balance column), a month-by-month table, and the result of the balance or totals check. |
The Category column is filled from the description: UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS, Salary, Cash/ATM, Card, EMI/Loan, Tax, Interest, Charges, Cheque and Auto-debit. Anything else is left blank rather than guessed.
Prefer CSV? The same data can be downloaded as a CSV file instead.
Checking the result
Where the statement has a running balance, every row is checked against the one before it. Where it prints totals, the rows are added up and compared. Rows that fail are highlighted in red in the Excel file, so you know exactly which lines to compare with the PDF. Total rows are left off the Transactions sheet so a pivot table does not count them twice.
What it cannot do
- Scanned statements. A photo or scan of a statement has no text in it to read, and PDF Desk does not do OCR. It will say so rather than produce an empty file. A statement downloaded from net banking or received by email is not a scan.
- Very large files are limited only by your device's memory, since everything happens on it. There is no page limit set by PDF Desk.
- Unusual layouts can be misread. You see a preview before downloading, can add or remove pages from the table, adjust the columns, or drag a box around a table it missed with Mark a table. Remember layout saves your column fixes in your browser for the next statement with the same layout.
