How to convert it
- Download the statement PDF from ICICI internet banking, or save it from the email.
- Click Open your ICICI statement above and choose the file.
- If it asks for a password, enter the one ICICI set for the statement; the email that carried it usually explains it. It is used only on your device.
- Check the preview and click Download Excel.
What is handled for ICICI statements
These came from real ICICI statements that did not convert properly at first, and each is now covered by a test:
- The side panel on page one of card statements. Page one has a column beside the transactions with the amount due, a spends chart and offers. It shares lines with the transactions, which made page one's rows disappear. PDF Desk now cuts that panel off and keeps every page-one transaction, with nothing from the panel leaking into the sheet.
- Dr and Cr markers. Where amounts are printed in one column with "Dr" or "Cr" next to them, the Excel file has separate Debit and Credit columns instead, so the totals add up without a formula.
- Account statements with Withdrawal Amount, Deposit Amount and Balance (INR) columns keep those columns, and the balance is used to check every row.
What the Excel file contains

The Category column is filled from the description: UPI, NEFT, IMPS, RTGS, Salary, Cash/ATM, Card, EMI/Loan, Tax, Interest, Charges, Cheque and Auto-debit. Anything else is left blank rather than guessed.

Checking the result
Where the statement has a running balance, every row is checked against the one before it. Where it prints totals, the rows are added up and compared. Rows that fail are highlighted in red in the Excel file, so you know exactly which lines to compare with the PDF. Total rows are left off the Transactions sheet so a pivot table does not count them twice.
What it cannot do
- Scanned statements. A photo or scan of a statement has no text in it to read, and PDF Desk does not do OCR. It will say so rather than produce an empty file. A statement downloaded from net banking or received by email is not a scan.
- Very large files are limited only by your device's memory, since everything happens on it. There is no page limit set by PDF Desk.
- Unusual layouts can be misread. You see a preview before downloading, can add or remove pages from the table, adjust the columns, or drag a box around a table it missed with Mark a table. Remember layout saves your column fixes in your browser for the next statement with the same layout.
